I am beginning to get gardening hints from Friends... I pulled the ads off this blog and the comments must have got unplugged...

Freddallas,

Since I don't know what hardiness zone we are in any more--having not gardened in 20 years--I found this was a fun thing to play with

http://www.arborday.org/media/mapchanges.cfm

It has two maps, one series to show changes, another one shows the degree of changes
(i.e. 1 zone warmer, 2 zones, etc).

Maybe nice graphics for your blog.
BTW people can't leave comments anymore on your blog.
Waaaah. Sometimes I want to comment. Politely.

FD: This is cool... or hot.
Hardiness Zones for Gardening have Changed !
This animation illustrates the general warming that has occurred from 1990 to 2006. Click the play button to see how the hardiness zones have changed.

Fred, yay! Thanks for using my link, and for reinstating the comment-ability on your blog. I am using it now. I hope.

And now, back to the subject, wow it is astonishing how things have warmed up in only 19 years, as shown in those maps! All my gardening books are decades old. Somehow I sensed they were not right for now.

We have a shared neighborhood garden plot at the end of our block, and folks are planting vegetable gardens there. I bought some seeds yesterday. Now I realize I'm so late in planting them!
