Obama's Wars: Afghanistan ... Keep in mind that we are Foreign Invidel Occupation Troops in Afghanistan... see what started a fire fight there ....

From NBC's Courtney Kube

Later today, the Pentagon will announce the next 3,100 forces who will deploy to Afghanistan as part of the President's surge plan.

About 2,600 troops from the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division will deploy from Fort Hood [, TEXAS] next summer, along with about 500 support forces from all over the country. These 3,100 troops bring the grand total to about 25,000 U.S. forces who have now received deployment orders for the surge to Afghanistan. No word on when the last 5,000 will be notified of their deployments.

Also, the U.S. military flatly denies press reports that U.S. and Afghan forces opened fire on Afghan civilians during a protest in Garmsir District today.

Instead, a spokesperson from NATO ISAF forces in Afghanistan says that a sniper opened fire during the protest, striking an Afghan official before ISAF forces shot and killed the sniper.

The spokesperson insists that no shots were fired at anyone other than the sniper.

The incident happened at Forward Operating Base Dehili. ISAF officials will participate in a shura with the local Garmsir District Governor and Chief of Police later this week.

The protest began because of allegations that U.S. Marines destroyed or desecrated copies of the Quran. A senior defense official said that those allegations are completely false.
